Press Release Fond du Lac and Blue Goose Coffee House Press Release New Horicon Bank Building Goes “Green” 1/07Horicon Bank leads the way with its new “green” geothermal building in Fond du Lac, WI – working with nature while changing the nature of banking. In a brave new world for banking, Horicon Bank is advancing the little known “green” energy of geothermal heating, which is achieved by taking advantage of the natural, stable warmth of the earth. The geothermal system also has the ability to cool the building more efficiently than conventional air conditioning. Horicon Bank adopted this system, not only because it was more efficient and economical over the long-term, but it also reflects Horicon Bank’s Vision of “Making lives better and more secure.” Horicon Bank’s brand image is associated with the natural beauty of the Horicon Marsh (the largest freshwater cattail marsh in America). Using green energy is a logical extension of Horicon Bank’s identity and attachment to the region. The geothermal system is not the only progressive quality about Fond du Lac’s Horicon Bank. It is also one of the few banks in the country to run its own independent coffee house - “Blue Goose Coffee House.” Serving Milwaukee’s own Alterra Coffee, Horicon Bank believes the Blue Goose Coffee House provides another level of improving the customer’s experience at the bank. The Fond du Lac building was designed by John Cullen, the design architect of the Pittsburgh firm Korzeniwsky Cullen. The exterior is a reflection of Horicon Bank’s main branch and the Federalist Style. The Horicon building was built in 1915 by the prominent Milwaukee architect, Herman Buemming – a disciple of the Washington Square Arch designer, Stanford White. The signature Horicon Bank arches reappear in Fond du Lac as entrances to the Coffee House and main lobby. The interior, in contrast to the traditional exterior is bright and modernist. It features clerestory windows, lime green walls, light maple finishing and sheer blue pearl granite countertops. Central States Incorporated of Waunakee, WI and customer of Horicon Bank was the architect of record and general contractor. Please contact Communications Director, Fred C.
