Trust Services

It Always Starts with Trust

Horicon Bank's Trust Administration Office offers a personalized approach that goes beyond traditional trust services. We may work with your attorney and preferred financial advisor to offer comprehensive administrative trust services.

We are one of the first community banks in the Midwest to offer the delegation of investments to financial advisors and not requiring the bank to manage the trust assets. As an independent trustee, Horicon Bank has the ability to work with your advisor, all while offering the support of a strong financial partner.

We work with individuals and families as a trustee, personal representative/executor, power of attorney or agent. We are primarily serving in these roles as an independent trustee in Wisconsin, Illinois and other select states.

What is a Professional Corporate Trustee?

A corporate trustee is a company that you designate to manage your finances as you indicated in the documents you executed with your attorney.

Simply put: our goal is to be sure your last wishes are carried out.

The main benefits of naming a company over any individual are as follows:

  • Documentation - Documentation is critical for anyone in a fiduciary role to carry out their duties, so it is important to keep everything up to date. For instance, if you loan money to someone and you want that to come out of their share, you’ll want to document the loan appropriately with your attorney.
  • Impartiality – There is no history and there are no grudges that are carried forward.
  • Disclosure – Beneficiaries are provided an accounting of what has taken place. Professionals are audited whereas individual trustees consisting of family members and non-family members may not be subject to the same type of oversight.

The Holiday Clause

Saving family holidays from disputes over finance.

At Horicon Bank, we often refer to our role as the Professional Corporate Trustee/Executor/Personal Representative/Agents under a Power of Attorney as "The Holiday Clause" in your document.

Professionals can save holidays for families as there may be times during the administration of one’s finances where it can be difficult to deliver bad news or to simply say ‘no’ to a request when carrying out the administration of your last wishes. A professional has years of experience in handling these types of matters, which means, your family's holidays are preserved for time spent and cherished together, not spent disagreeing over financial matters.
