At the Small Business Owners Community Conference, presented by Horicon Bank, I had the chance to interview Sahil Bloom, author of The Five Types of Wealth.
His book is about building a successful life, not just a successful business. It covers mental wealth, spiritual wealth, physical health, relationships, and financial wealth. It's a reminder that success isn't one-dimensional.
But what really stood out wasn’t in the book. It was something he said on stage that stopped the entire room.
"Anything over zero compounds."
That line has been stuck in my head ever since.
We’ve all had moments where we feel stuck. There’s a big project we want to take on, but we don’t start because we don’t have time to do it perfectly. Or we don’t think we can finish it in one sitting. So we stall out. We wait for the perfect window of time that never shows up.
Sahil’s point is simple. Any progress is better than no progress.
If you want to write a book, writing one page is better than zero.
If you’re trying to get fit, a 15-minute walk is better than nothing.
If you’re trying to grow your business, one action today still counts.
Too many small business owners let perfection block momentum. But the truth is, momentum is what creates results. Small steps matter. They add up. They build confidence. And yes, they compound.
The next time you find yourself staring at a task you don’t think you have time or energy for, remember that line.
Anything over zero compounds.
Do something. Even if it’s small. Especially if it’s small. It’s how everything big starts.
Also, for what it's worth, The Five Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom is well worth your time. He was one of the most inspiring voices at our event and a great reminder of what success really looks like.
