Strieff Honored by ABA with Inaugural Emerging Leaders Award

Horicon Bank’s Retail Sales Manager and Vice President, Meredith Strieff was honored by the American Bankers Association as a recipient of its 2023 ABA Emerging Leader Awards. This award recognizes the next generation of bank leaders who are committed to the highest standards of achievement and service to both their industry and their local communities.

Strieff and eleven other winners were nationally recognized during the recent ABA Annual Convention in Nashville, Tenn.

“We celebrate Meredith’s achievement,” said Fred C. Schwertfeger, Horicon Bank President. “Meredith is an innovative thinker, an exceptional leader and a caring banker. She truly exemplifies what it means to live out our vision – to do good for our customers and in our communities.”

The Emerging Leader winners were selected by a diverse steering committee of industry professionals after a review of nominations from banks across the country. The qualities and characteristics the committee evaluated as judging criteria included dedication to the profession, inventiveness, leadership skills, mentoring ability, personal integrity, tenure at the bank and broader commitment to a career in banking.

Strieff explained that she believes being a leader is much more than having the right title.

“To me, an emerging leader is someone who’s not afraid to take changes,” explained Strieff. “Someone who doesn’t have all the answers, but they’re not afraid to say, ‘I don’t know.’ They go that extra step and they find out.”

ABA President and CEO, Rob Nichols, congratulated all the Emerging Leader Award winners.

“The 2023 ABA Emerging Leader Award recipients are a talented and diverse group of bankers, and we congratulate them on this well-earned distinction,” said Nichols. “Our industry is in good hands for years to come as this next generation of bank leaders continue to demonstrate their creativity, commitment and integrity in serving the needs of their customers and communities.”
